An interactive multi-media event that reveals hidden aspects of Amsterdam
“Hidden Cities” was an art project commissioned by the city of Amsterdam, an interactive multi-media event that reveals hidden aspects of the city. As one of the collaborators in this project alongside the new media artist Frederick Rodrigues, CODON was responsible for developing a mobile app that in which different events such as 360º videos, sound and AR objects were implemented and triggered once located in certain areas of the city.
HOW DID IT WORK?
Audiences are asked to give their smartphones in exchange for modified devices. Guided by these smartphones, in groups of 15-20, they walk through a series of interactive multimedia experiences located around the city. These experiences use a specially designed augmented reality app to reveal hidden layers, and to transport the audience to different virtual spaces that allow the audience to discover displaced communities, hidden subcultures and new perspectives. These installations use a variety of techniques, from simple audio playback, to several types of ‘augmented reality”, as well as revealing the augmented layer of content these installations require the audience to interact with each one in a particularly physical way.
